Yep, I think there’s going to be 3 different Broncos when Ford drops its bombshell. In a Ford GT like moment, they’ll roll out the Escape based Bronco, the Ranger based Bronco and then the show stopping F-150 based Bronco. It’s long been rumored that they want to turn Bronco and Mustang into sub-brands and this is he pe rfect opportunity to make B ronco a full J eep-like sub brand.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “Sasquatch, where’s this big boy Bronco? We’ve seen the baby and the regular testing and even fully revealed!” True! But we’ve also seen the big guy testing as well.

Kinja'd!!!

This mule is in no way for anything R anger sized. The F150 is already significantly wider than the R anger and the Raptor version wider still. Any Ranger based body on this frame would look like a M ad M ax car with the wheels sticking out from the side of the fenders.

Ford also doesn’t make this bo dy combination in the F150, a single cab , 5' short bed is not possible even on a base F 150 or a R aptor, they don’t make a frame short enough. So why create this unique body style for a mule? Easy, that would be the frame size for a two door F150 based B ronco.

Kinja'd!!!

The business case for this model is also strong. Bronco is going to be a Jeep competitor not only in capability but in branding and marketing as well. Ford probably figures that t he best way to drop the Bronco brand as a superior offering to Jeep is to provide a larger flagship model that Jeep currently has no answer for.

With the big Bronco reveal delayed, we may have to wait to see what Ford has in store but as we’ve seen in the recent past, Ford likes surprising it’s customers and fans.

If it means getting a proper two door Bronco successor, I will (begrudgingly) put up with Bronco as some sort of lifestyle sub brand, which unfortunately seems all too likely given what happened to the Mustang.

Ford going after that valuable horse-girl market with the bronco brand?

I hope they do it like Ducati did for the scrambler line. Yes, it’s all about the “lifestyle”, but peel back the #Brand and there is a legitimate family of great, affordable motorcycles underneath. They have the base scrambler, the desert sled for more off roading, the cafe racer for better street handling, some limited editions, and the entry level sixty-two. But all come in well below the rest of the Du cati lineup. In a way, people buying shirts and gear or partnering with Ducati for #Brand things seemed to help keep prices down.

What I’m getting at is I hope that’s how they do this - Price it low, make it a good product, and make it back with shirts and brand deals.

That would be cool if it turns out true. I have my doubts, though. I’m not convinced there’s enough of a market for three sized Bronco’s. Especially if the largest is a two-door one. Consumer trends all show more demand for four doors - hence why you see way more 4 door JL Wrangler’s than 2 door.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I think we’ll be seeing a reveal relatively soon now.

I think it's all still kind of quaint to be talking about 2020 and 2021 product launches, when we don't even know if the factories will be able to build or even tool up for any new products.

Given the new frame under the Ranger Bronco, could we be seeing a Raptor Bronco under the crazy F150? I feel like Ford could make it work if they were dedicated to hiding the frame/drivetrain under a weird body (see what GM did for the C8 mule out of a bastardized Holden Ute).

I do not know Fords production capacity but given that they sell A LOT of F-series trucks I am guessing they are near their production capacity. Seems a little misguided to move production from your most profitable and popular vehicle to an unproven product.

Just my thoughts

The various “leaked” images and the teaser videos Ford has shown, it rode on 35” tires. I completed think the stubby F150 is just the mule body with the 4 door Bronco chassis underneath.

I will gladly put up with a lot of other bullshit for an F-150 based Bronco done right.

Oh the big one will most likely come in four doors as well but don't forget that a four door F150 SUV already exists in the Expedition

Like I said, it's way too wide. The Ranger Raptor is about the same width as a normal F150, this mule is as wide as the F150 Raptor. There's no way it's a Ranger platform under there

I love that configuration. I'm worried it's going to disappear after this generation, Ford is currently the only one who makes a single cab 6.5' bed

They are ungodly rare in the wild, so I could understand if they stop. However, the proportions on them are just so good.

I’m sure they’ll still be somewhat available. I usually see them as fleet trucks.

True but I’ve seen more fleets getting the short bed with the extended cab or the long bed with the regular cab. I hope Ford keeps it simply because they are the only ones left who make one.
